Liberty formally began learning tarot in her 20s after she discovered parapsychology while studying for her Psychology degree. She pursued a career in social work and counselling where she was able to incorporate her intuitive and tarot practice into her work with clients. After moving to Nanaimo from Toronto in 1997, Liberty began conducting tarot readings in a space she rented in the Heritage Mews. Shortly after, she opened Lobelia’s Lair. On October 5, 2016, Lobelia’s will be celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Liberty offers over 25 years’ experience in reading professionally and draws on techniques from her education in counselling psychology and personal development. Her readings reach deep into the psyche, are highly accurate, and serve as a gentle nudge toward self-awareness.
A brief overview of the tarot….
The 78 cards of the Tarot capture the human experience. The 22 cards of the major arcana represent our spiritual journey. As Carl Jung’s perspective presented, this journey reflects three aspects of our psyche: consciousness; subconscious and spiritual awareness.
The major arcana cards in a reading represent our “big picture” spiritual experiences and growth, the minor arcana is the “stage” on which we “live out” our spiritual lessons.
The minor arcana is made up of four suits – Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles; representing the four elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth. The 4 suits express various aspects of our human experience: spirit, mind, emotion and our environment. The court cards depict the influence of people around us and characteristics of self.
A reading reflects the present, and what is most pertinent to you in the moment, and potential directions moving into the future.
A spread does not necessarily predict an outcome that is absolute. The awareness we glean from a reading can guide us to take another approach or make a different choice.
Anyone can learn to interpret cards, however we cannot discount the gift of intuition or psychic ability. What one may read about the literal meaning of the card can be limiting.
I believe that each individual card is a doorway, and as we step over the threshold, more information can be apparent and illuminate our situation. Developing our intuition and openness to channel, messages can also come through from loved ones who have passed on.
The Tarot is a language of life’s experiences and can be a magical mirror offering personal awareness and guidance.
